Museo dell’Opificio delle Pietre Dure

It was established by the Grand Duke Ferdinando I de’ Medici as a workshop for the processing of rare and semi-precious stones and was originally housed in the Uffizi. The Opificio was founded for the purpose of coordinating the various court craftsman who were already working on the Chapel of Princes.

The “Commesso Fiorentino” was a very important work and it was finished in one year. In the Opificio were realized works for the most important european family and its products can be find everywhere.

The Opifico delle Pietre Dure is one of the leading schools in Italy in the field of art restoration.
